In Haida legend, there was a time when the whole world was black. All light was secreted in a box, which the trickster Raven decided to steal. Pursued by Eagle he fled, spilling pieces of light that became our stars. As he passed the edge of the world, Raven dropped the light....which floated gently down to touch the clouds.
